Joint Announcement: Auckland Transport and Auckland Airbus

Auckland Transport and Auckland Airbus have announced buses will run every 10 minutes to and from the airport from 1 September.

To further enhance the services, the route will be split between Mt Eden Road and Dominion Road to allow more domestic passengers’ access to Airbus.

Gary Fitzsimons, General Manager of Airbus Express, says: “It is really exciting to be able to offer this new service to Airbus Express customers travelling to and from Auckland Airport. With our daily capacity now moving from over 6,900 seats to over 9,000 seats available each day there will be even less reasons not to use our services”

“The completion of the Manukau Harbour Crossing has further enhanced our trip times and has given our board a huge impetus to move to a ten minute service in readiness for Rugby World Cup 2011 and beyond, so we can show our overseas and local visitors that Auckland has a world class public transport system.

Mr Fitzsimons adds, “Airbus Express is 100% independent and privately owned and we have invested over $5 million in fleet and service improvements in the past 3 years and continue to improve on our customer offerings.”

“Our partners at Auckland Airport are now also providing dedicated bus stops and ticket kiosks at both the International and Domestic terminals to further speed up our loading times.

Auckland Transport Public Transport Operations Manager, Mark Lambert says the move to a ten minute service is good news for people travelling to the airport.

“We know that providing frequent services is key to getting people to use public transport.

“The Airbus is already a successful service and this should encourage even more travellers to use public transport to get to the airport.

“With buses running every 10 minutes people will have a more convenient, cost effective option for travel.”
