Central Auckland car park building upgrade
Last reviewed: 1/12/2011 11:52 a.m.

New equipment was installed in four central city car parks to make it easier to find a park, and provide more ways to pay. The buildings are Civic, Downtown, K'Road (payment machine upgrade only) and Victoria Street.

Improvements include:

  • Automatic payment machines to take payment by cash, credit card or EFTPOS.
  • Signage at the carpark entrance to display the best parking deal available.
  • Indicator lights displayed above each parking bay make it easier and quicker to find somewhere to park.
  • Entries, exits, automatic payment machines and many CCTV security cameras link into our central control room.
  • Control room operators on hand to monitor the car parks and assist with any security issues when required. The assistance button on any of the equipment will instantly put the customer through to one of the operators.
  • Barcoded tickets replace magnetic stripes. The new tickets are easier to use and better for the environment.

Easier and quicker parking

The wayfinding system is installed in the Civic, Victoria St and Downtown car parks.

Sensors record, at any point in time, what spaces are available in the car park. It shows red and green lights over every bay to indicate whether they are available or not.

Vacant bays are easy to spot at a glance, saving time spent driving around and looking.

More ways to pay

The new equipment offers more ways to pay. Automatic payment machines take Visa, Mastercard, Diners card* and EFTPOS payments, as well as cash. Help is only a button push away if required.

Park Right debit cards issued by Auckland Transport can be used to enter and exit the car park. The card can be topped up at any of the payment machines in the car parks.

In the future, more payment options will be:

  • Credit cards can be used to enter and exit the car park, printing a receipt if required at exit.
  • Reserve and pay for car parks online.

*Our payment systems are fully security compliant for credit cards.
