Overview

There are six key aspects of AMETI Pakuranga. Some of these are dealt with in more detail below. The letter key relates to the map. (Click to enlarge, JPG 788KB.)

  • Urban busway with high quality bus lanes separate from traffic to allow for faster and more frequent buses - A
  • Better access to rail with the busway providing a direct connection to Panmure train station - B
  • Pakuranga town centre to have better local connections by car, bus, cycling and walking - C
  • Gossamer and Trugood Drives to have intersection upgrades and road widening, to address congestion to and from Highbrook and East Tamaki - D
  • Reeves Road flyover will create a direct  connection between Pakuranga Road and the South Eastern Highway/Southern Motorway over Ti Rakau Drive - E
  • Better walking and cycling facilities with wider footpaths and new cycle facilities.

South Eastern Busway

An urban busway between Panmure Station, Pakurganga and Botany is a key part of improving transport choices in the area. The busway would cut journey times significantly and ease pressure on congestion.

The Busway has three sections to it: Panmure, Pakuranga Road and in Pakuranga town centre where a new bus station would be built on Ti Rakau Road.

Reeves Road flyover

Proposal for how the flyover might lookThe Reeves Road flyover is a new road bridge linking Pakuranga Road to Waipuna Bridge above the current Reeves Road.

The flyover will be above Ti Rakau Drive, reducing congestion at this intersection for buses and traffic making local journeys.

The flyover will also reduce traffic on Pakuranga Road and Ti Rakau Drive outside the town centre.

Construction for this is currently scheduled to begin in 2019.

Improvements to Pakuranga Town Centre

The Reeves Road flyover will traverse the Pakuranga Town Centre and will result in traffic reductions there.  This in turn will allow for improvements to the urban environment and development of new facilities.

Better pedestrian access is planned, there will be a new bus station at the town centre serviced by bus lanes on Pakuranga Road, and an improved road layout around the centre.

Walking and cycling improvements

Improving walking and cycling facilities to make them safer and more attractive to use is one of the main aims of AMETI.

Along Pakuranga Road and Ti Rakau Drive, the proposal is to provide cycle lanes within the road corridor with some form of separation from traffic wherever possible, as well as wider footpaths.
