Traffic Counts Data Explained
The Traffic Counts data is collected for Auckland Transport at sites within the Auckland region. The data dates back to 1990 and previous to 2011 was collected by the legacy councils Auckland City, North Shore City, Manukau City and Waitakere.
Traffic count sites are listed in the spread sheet in alphabetical order by street name. Each column is explained here:
City: refers to the legacy council that collected that particular traffic count. The traffic counting programme has now been centralised, so all counts done from 1 November 2010 will have Auckland Transport in the city area.
Road name: the road the traffic count was done on.
RP: road position.
Location: exact location of where it was on the road that the traffic count was done.
Count started: date when the 7 days count finished. The two lines reflect traffic count (example northbound or southbound for the same road).
1-day: most of the counts are done over a 7-day period. Very few sites are counted for 1 day. If 1 day counts are done for a road they will be in this column.
5-dat ADT: 5 days Average Daily Traffic from Monday to Friday.
Sat tot: total traffic for Saturday.
Sun tot: total traffic for Sunday.
7-day average: 7 days average traffic from Monday to Sunday.
Direction: indicates which side of the road the count was on.
AM peak: peak hour traffic in the morning.
PM peak: peak hour traffic in the evening.
Midday inter peak: peak hour traffic around midday.
Additional columns are made available in the comprehensive CSV file:
RAMM ID: unique ID Auckland Transport allocate to individual roads.
Site ref: site reference number in the overall traffic counting programme.
CW ID: carriageway ID.
Type: type of counting site.
HCV%: percentage of heavy commercial vehicles.
7-day count both directions class percentage: different vehicle by classification.
Total%: percentage of different vehicle by classification.
