Auckland Transport’s Community Transport team works with communities, businesses and schools to improve travel choices and make it safer and easier for people like you to get out of the car and onto public transport, on a bike, or off for a walk.
TravelWise is a broad spectrum programme that aims to:
reduce car trips to and from schools, tertiary institutes and workplaces,
encourage sustainable and active forms of transport, and
improve the safety of the journey.
Since its inception in 2005, TravelWise has achieved the following results:
Taking 9,619 trips off the road each morning peak hour
Halving child pedestrian injury crashes around TravelWise schools
Reducing car travel by 135,000km, delivering a congestion benefit of $20,35 million each year
Infrastructure with long term safety benefits installed
Over 300 Walking School Buses operating at 130 Auckland schools
A reduction of 1,626 car journeys each morning to the CDB universities
With a cost/benefit ratio of 9,5, TravelWise is one of the most cost-effective transport programmes in the country
