Last reviewed: 10/01/2011 2:05 p.m.

The 6km Green Route offers a scenic alternative for walking and cycling between Devonport and Takapuna.

The route is a network of paths, boardwalks and bridges that weaves through parks, mangroves, heritage areas and residential streets.

If you ride a bike, the Green Route provides a great recreational ride, while also giving commuters easy access to the Devonport and Bayswater ferries.

For walkers, the route crosses gentle terrain for a leisurely stroll and provides wider paths for prams and pushchairs.

Attractions and activities along the way include the nautical-themed playground at Northboro Reserve, eel spotting among the mangroves, and delving into North Shore’s history at it's oldest cemetery founded in 1891.
