About the scheme
A Residents' Parking Scheme was
introduced to Eden Park in 1997. Since then, it has been revised, following extensive consultation with the local community. From 1 November 2010 a “two zone” concept reflecting international best practice has operated.
The scheme has been designed to reduce the impact of events on residents. It assists residents, their guests and businesses to access their property or park on the street. It provides increased safety for the many pedestrians who attend events. It helps with congestion by reducing vehicle movements in the immediate vicinity of the stadium as well as encourages the use of public transport by event patrons.
New permits were issued for Rugby World Cup 2011. These permits are pink or yellow. The permits remain valid for future events at Eden Park unless or until revoked by Auckland Transport, so please retain your permits.
On this page you will find information about permit guidelines and application forms.
Residents Parking and Access Permits
This map of the area shows two distinct parking zones that are activated during events at Eden Park.
Zone A Parking | Zone A Access | Zone B Parking | Other Areas Access Permits
| Zone A Parking Permit |
Zone A is closer to, and surrounds, the Eden Park stadium.
Zone A Parking Permits are for residents living within the Zone A boundaries. They allow permit holders to park in Zone A or Zone B when the Residents Parking Scheme is in operation. They also allow the permit holder access to their residence through a road closure. Parking permit holders do not need a separate access permit.
When activated, signs at the perimeter of, and at intervals within the zone are displayed. These signs clearly tell everyone that only residents displaying a Zone A Parking Permit are entitled to park on the street.
Vehicle registration numbers must be provided to obtain permits, and this registration number will be printed on each permit. Each permit is only valid for use in the vehicle with the same registration number.
In addition, each resident is entitled to apply for one permit per residence without a vehicle registration number. This permit is valid for use in any vehicle. Residents may find it useful for guests. Where a permit without a vehicle registration number is issued, it will show the permit number reference in the format **12345**.
Parking permits will only be issued to residents who demonstrate proof of residency and for vehicles used by those residents.
Businesses within Zone A are not normally eligible for parking permits. |

|
Zone A Access Permit |
Zone A Access Permits are for residents living within the Zone A boundaries, and require access through a road closure. They are also for businesses needing access to their premises within the Zone A boundaries. They allow permit holders access through road closures in Zone A when an event is happening.
Access Permits do not allow holders to park on the street in the parking zones. Vehicles parked on street without a valid Parking Permit when the zones are in operation, may receive a parking infringement and may be towed.
Vehicles must display either a Zone A Parking Permit or Zone A Access Permit in order to pass through a Zone A road closure. Vehicles not displaying a valid permit will not be allowed through.
Each residence may be issued up to four Access Permits. Businesses may apply for more Access Permits where they can demonstrate a valid need. |
|
| Zone B Parking Permit |
Zone B covers a more extensive area and is only used for major events attracting large crowd sizes, such as International Rugby Union and Super Rugby finals.
Zone B Parking Permits are for residents living within the Zone B boundaries. They allow permit holders to park in Zone B when the Residents Parking Scheme is in operation.
When activated, signs at the perimeter and at intervals within the zone are displayed. These signs clearly tell everyone that only residents displaying a Zone A or B Parking Permit are entitled to park on the street.
Vehicle registration numbers must be provided to obtain permits, and the registration number will be printed on each permit.
Residents of Ward Terrace, which is inside the Sandringham Rd Zone A closure, will have the letters “WARD” stamped on the permit to allow them access through the road closure.
Other Zone B residents only need parking permits. There are no other access permits for Zone B as there are no other road closures affecting the Zone B area.
Parking permits will only be issued to residents who demonstrate proof of residency and for vehicles used by those residents. |
|
| Other Areas Access Permits |
During Eden Park events, road closures are essential in some streets to ensure pedestrian safety and to effectively manage large crowds. For example, Bond Street and New North Road may be closed at times during events.
A specially designated Access Permit is available to residents or businesses having a home or premises within the road closure, eg
In each case, the Access Permit will show an abbreviation for the affected area. The designation will allow the permit holder to pass through the road closure, when it is safe to do so.
For these streets outside of Zone A and Zone B, parking may be permitted on street, unless other signed restrictions apply.
For residents of streets located between Dominion Road and Bond Street eg
Aitken Terrace
Bright Street
Alexander Street
Buchanan Street
Mostyn Street
Hesketh Street
King Street
Richbourne Street
These residents do not require parking or access permits. The following routing should be followed in order to access these streets:
from Ian McKinnon Drive,
turn onto Haslett Road,
turn left onto Vailima Way,
turn left onto Bright Street and follow it around the corner onto Aitken Terrace,
from Aitken Terrace, take the appropriate street exit.

When will my permit expire?
Eden Park Parking and Access Permits do not have an expiry date, like previous permits did. Permits will remain valid unless or until Auckland Transport revokes them. Please retain your permits for use at all events.
How do I apply for a permit?
There are two ways that you can get an application form:
Once you’ve completed the application form, attach proof of residency or business premises and post it to Auckland Transport. If your vehicle is registered in a different name to the applicant or at a different address, provide proof that the vehicle resides at the residential address provided. The address to post the application to is located on the back of the form.
Please note: It can take up to five working days to process an application from the date we receive it.
We may need to verify information you have provided to us.
Please also note that permits cannot be obtained from Eden Park.

Resident’s permit rights will be revoked if his or her permits are used to generate revenue.
A Parking Permit entitles the permit holder to park within the Eden Park parking zones when these are in operation. However, the scheme operates on a “first come, first served” basis and the availability of a parking space cannot be guaranteed.
Permit holders must still obey parking laws or general parking restrictions and signage imposed by the Road User Rules (e.g. no parking over a driveway, no parking within 6m of an intersection).
Permit holders must not park in any prohibited or no-stopping area within the parking zones, such as (but not limited to) bus stops, taxi stands, mobility parking bays, clearways or where there are broken yellow lines.
Permit holders are not exempt from other parking restrictions within the parking zones such as time restricted parking areas.
Times of Operation and Enforcement
Notifying residents and businesses:
Residents are sent notification by Eden Park prior to events informing them of any parking restrictions or traffic management measures that will be put in place.
Event signage is erected during the week leading up to the event at key locations within the vicinity of Eden Park stadium. Residents can also find information about events on the Eden Park website.
Parking Enforcement:
Temporary parking and traffic signs are displayed at least 24 hours prior to an Eden Park event.
Specially designated operational car parking spaces have been designated within the residential parking zones and residents are not permitted to park in these areas. Enforcement will commence on the date and time specified on the advisory signs located in these operational areas.
Depending on expected crowd size, parking restrictions are generally enforced up to five hours before the event begins and up to three - four hours after it finishes.
The role of parking officers during events is to keep the roadways clear and to ensure that everyone complies with permit restrictions. Parking officers are available at short notice to manage blocked driveways or other traffic issues.
Residents who find their driveway blocked by another vehicle may call the Eden Park hotline to request assistance.
Note: Vehicles parking in the residents' only parking area without a permit may be towed.
Temporary Parking Permits
Temporary parking permits (also known as scratchies) are distributed by Eden park for some events.
They are available from Eden Park, Gate G, during business hours (9am - 5pm) during the week.
