How do we create a workplace travel plan?
To improve workplace travel, your organisation needs to approach the challenge in its own way. Depending on your needs, and those of your employees, the task can vary greatly in its scope and complexity.
The workplace travel plan programme offers a toolkit that assists workplaces in defining their transport issues, developing a plan of action and implementing activities and programmes.
This toolkit provides support for businesses to undertake their travel plan, by means of guidelines and templates for each phase of the travel planning process. Additional support and advice is available from Community Transport at Auckland Transport.
What does a travel plan cost?
It depends on the initiatives you plan for and implement.
Many workplaces manage the travel planning process using existing staff members. However, in some circumstances an organisation may choose to bring in external personnel.
Outsourcing project management expertise to develop a travel plan can cost between $20,000 and $50,000.
Sometimes developing a travel plan can align with a reorganisation or a relocation.
In some circumstances Auckland Transport can provide additional assistance.

How can we help?
The Travel Planning Team at Auckland Transport uses a partnership approach to provide support to institutions, large businesses and business areas. In addition to providing best practice advice and support for transport, a number of products and services are available:
Travel Survey and Analysis – Auckland Transport can provide an online survey to assess employees’ travel behaviour and business travel needs. Analysis of this survey is provided to enable focused development of a plan and, in future years, the means to assess the success of those measures.
Travel Maps – Development of a travel map showing public transport, walking and cycling links to your business.
Public Transport Package – Depending on the needs identified, some or all of these services may be included:
Passenger Transport Clinics - This service consists of an on-site public transport display with advisors to provide public transport information, journey planning and answer individual questions. These site visits are often associated with an event such as the launch of a travel plan, expo or relocation.
Give Public Transport a Go – a two week free trial of public transport for your employees
Carpooling – Auckland Transport provides an online carpooling service that can be customised for our business partners.
Cycling Package – Information, maps, events and cycle training.
Networking and Information – We provide information on upcoming events for travel planning and organise network meetings for our partner organisations.
