During the semester, around 40,000 students and staff travel to and around the University of Auckland and AUT University city campuses.
This puts huge pressure on roads and passenger transport systems, causing traffic jams and delays for students, staff and other commuters.
The largest travel behaviour research programme in New Zealand took place; collecting and analysing data from around 6,500 people.
This led to a 10-year programme to increase travel choices and make travel to and around the universities easier as a result of the Universities’ Travel Plan launched in 2007.Â
